The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) urged Iran to de-escalate tensions, while emphasizing that Israel has the right to defend itself.
According to News1 and others on the 16th (local time), in the joint statement from the G7 summit held in Canada, the leaders stated, "We affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself," and "We once again express our support for Israel's security."
Regarding Iran, they said, "We have consistently made it clear that Iran must never possess nuclear weapons," and stressed, "We urge that resolving the Iran crisis leads to a broad de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip."
Donald Trump, President of the United States, also agreed to this statement. Initially, President Trump was reported to have decided not to sign the joint statement urging de-escalation between Iran and Israel.
