The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) urged Iran to de-escalate tensions, while emphasizing that Israel has the right to defend itself.

According to News1 and others on the 16th (local time), the joint statement from the G7 summit held in Canada said, "We assert that Israel has the right to defend itself" and "We once again express support for the security of Israel."

Regarding Iran, the statement stressed, "We have continued to make clear that Iran can never possess nuclear weapons" and "We urge that resolving the Iranian crisis lead to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza."

Donald Trump, President of the United States, also agreed to this statement. Initially, President Trump had reportedly decided not to sign the joint statement calling for de-escalation between Iran and Israel.
