The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) called for de-escalation towards Iran, while emphasizing that Israel has the right to defend itself.
According to News1 and others on the 16th (local time), in a joint statement at the G7 summit held in Canada, the leaders stated, "We affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself" and "We once again express our support for Israel's security."
Regarding Iran, they said, "We have always made it clear that Iran can never possess nuclear weapons" and emphasized, "We urge that resolution of the Iran crisis will lead to a broad de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip."
The statement was also agreed upon by U.S. President Donald Trump. It was previously reported that President Trump had initially decided not to sign the joint statement calling for de-escalation between Iran and Israel.
