The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) called on Iran to de-escalate tensions, while emphasizing Israel’s right to self-defense.

According to News1 and others on the 16th (local time), in a joint statement issued at the G7 summit held in Canada, the leaders stated, “We affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself,” and “We once again express our support for Israel's security.”

Regarding Iran, they emphasized, “We have consistently made clear that Iran must never possess nuclear weapons,” and called for “a resolution to the Iran crisis that leads to a broad reduction of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.”

The statement was also agreed to by U.S. President Donald Trump. Originally, President Trump had reportedly decided not to sign the joint statement urging de-escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel.
