The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) urged Iran to de-escalate tensions, while emphasizing that Israel has the right to self-defense.
According to News1 and others on the 16th (local time), the G7 leaders, through a joint statement at the summit held in Canada, declared, "We affirm that Israel has the right to defend itself," and stated, "We once again express our support for Israel's security."
Regarding Iran, they emphasized, "We have consistently made it clear that Iran can never possess nuclear weapons," and urged, "The resolution of the Iranian crisis should lead to wide de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza."
This statement was also agreed upon by U.S. President Donald Trump. Initially, President Trump was reported to have decided not to sign the joint statement calling for the easing of tensions between Iran and Israel.
