Circle, the issuer of the dollar stablecoin USDC, is returning to South Korea this year following a visit in 2023.
Jeremy Allaire, Circle’s co-founder and chief executive officer, will visit South Korea on June 13 and meet local banks and cryptocurrency exchanges, BizWatch reported on June 6. Scheduled meetings include Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, as well as Bithumb and Coinone.
The visit has drawn attention to possible cooperation between Circle and major South Korean crypto companies. Circle has expanded USDC distribution and payments through partnerships with global exchanges including Coinbase and Binance.
Dunamu said a meeting with Circle is planned, but there is no confirmation that the two sides will sign a memorandum of understanding related to stablecoins. “A meeting with Circle is scheduled, but whether any specific agreement will be signed has not been confirmed,” a Dunamu official told BloombergBit.
