Bitcoin is entering a stretch of elevated short-term volatility, with the risk of further declines drawing attention.

Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, said Bitcoin could drop below $60,000 in the near term if geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran persist, Forbes reported on June 5. He made the remarks on the Coin Stories podcast.

Hayes said he is staying cautious on additional investment until the Federal Reserve begins expanding liquidity. He added that tariff policies could eventually support Bitcoin liquidity if they fuel inflation and lead to capital controls.

His long-term outlook remains positive. Hayes put Bitcoin's target price in a range of $250,000 to $750,000.

Traditional financial firms are also continuing to enter the market. Charles Schwab plans to offer spot trading in Bitcoin and Ether through new accounts in the first half of 2026.

Market data has also pointed to Bitcoin's relative strength. Mercado Bitcoin Research said Bitcoin consistently outperformed gold and the S&P 500 in the 60 days following major global shocks.

Bitcoin was trading at about $68,800, while the Fear and Greed Index has remained in the "Extreme Fear" zone in recent weeks.
