Tensions in the Middle East are rising again after Iran warned it still has additional options to counter a US maritime blockade.
Walter Bloomberg reported on April 12 that a senior Iranian official said Tehran still has response "leverage" it has not yet used, signaling possible retaliation against the US action.
The comment followed US measures to control the Strait of Hormuz and suggested Iran is keeping open the possibility of further military and non-military steps.
US Central Command said earlier that, under a presidential proclamation, it will block all maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports starting at 10 a.m. Eastern Time on April 13.
The measure applies to Iranian ports across the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. It will cover ships of all nationalities traveling to and from Iranian ports and coastal areas.
