Iran said it will soon unveil a new system to control ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said on May 16 that Tehran had prepared a specialized mechanism to manage vessel traffic through the strait "within the framework of safeguarding national sovereignty and ensuring the security of international trade," according to Iran’s state-run IRIB broadcaster and other local media.
He added that only commercial vessels and countries cooperating with Iran would benefit under the new framework. The route would remain fully closed to what he called agents of the so-called "liberation project."
Azizi also said Iran would secure what it described as its legitimate rights, including costs and fees, in exchange for specialized services provided under the new system.
