Hester Peirce, one of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s most prominent pro-cryptocurrency voices, plans to step down in November. The move is drawing market attention as investors weigh whether it could alter the direction of U.S. digital-asset regulation.

BeInCrypto reported on May 20 that Peirce will leave her post as an SEC commissioner after being appointed an associate professor at Regent University School of Law.

Peirce joined the SEC in January 2018.

She is widely known in the cryptocurrency industry by the nickname “Crypto Mom” and is regarded as a pro-crypto figure.

Peirce has also publicly criticized former SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s hard-line, enforcement-focused regulatory approach.

The SEC is currently operating with three commissioners after the recent resignation of a Democratic commissioner.

BeInCrypto said the future direction of U.S. digital-asset regulation could depend on whom the White House picks to replace Peirce.

The market is watching how the departure of a pro-crypto SEC commissioner could affect U.S. regulatory policy and the business environment for cryptocurrency companies.
