Dunamu, the operator of digital-asset exchange Upbit, said May 22 that it held an event supporting South Korea’s national athletes to mark Bitcoin Pizza Day.
The company provided pizza and drinks to athletes training at the national training center in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province. The event was held under its status as an official partner of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee.
Dunamu also handed out a booklet covering basic financial knowledge to help improve the athletes’ asset management skills and financial literacy. A photo event and prize giveaway were also held on site, with Galaxy Upbit Exclusive products and commemorative goods distributed.
The national training center also hosted Team Korea trail running training that day ahead of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. Upbit presented separate commemorative gifts to the top three male and female trail runners.
"It was impressive to see the national athletes overcome their personal battles and strengthen their determination to win at the Asian Games," Kim Taek-soo, head of the national training center, said. "Together with sponsors including Upbit, we will continue to build a more robust training environment so that the athletes’ spirit of challenge can shine even more."
An Upbit official said the company organized the event to cheer on Team Korea ahead of the Asian Games, which are now four months away, as a "national digital-asset exchange." It will continue providing various forms of support so athletes can build a stable foundation both on and off the field, the official added.
Bitcoin Pizza Day commemorates the first real-world purchase made with Bitcoin on May 22, 2010, when the cryptocurrency was used to buy pizza. The industry sees the date as symbolizing the practical use of digital assets in everyday life.
