Pezeshkian reiterates stance in talks with Qatar’s emir, who mediated negotiations

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran is ready to complete efforts to end conflict and tensions in the Middle East.
Iranian media, including Fars News Agency, reported that Pezeshkian made the remarks on May 26 in talks with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who mediated negotiations on a memorandum of understanding with the US to end the war.
In a statement, the Iranian presidency said Pezeshkian thanked the Qatari government for its support and sustained, constructive efforts in the peace process. He also emphasized Iran’s readiness to move toward a “dignified framework” to end the war and current regional tensions.
“Now it is time for the other side, the US, to show its will,” Pezeshkian said.
He added that serious efforts are underway to finalize relevant documents and provisions, including expert-level discussions, to create a clear path toward stability.
Earlier, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who is leading Iran’s delegation, visited Doha for talks with the US on ending the conflict.
The main issue on the agenda in Qatar was the release of Iranian assets frozen by the US, the report said.
Tasnim News Agency, citing a person close to Iran’s negotiating team, reported that Tehran’s 14-point draft agreement to end the war includes a demand that the US unfreeze $24 billion in Iranian overseas assets.
Separately, Pezeshkian said he spoke with leaders of major Islamic countries to mark Eid al-Adha and stressed solidarity and cooperation among Muslim nations.
In a post on X, he said he spoke with the leaders of Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Turkey, Tajikistan, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan to extend Eid al-Adha greetings. He added that he hoped to see full mutual support among those countries in the face of various threats.
