Data from the Korea Exchange showed foreign investors were net sellers of 44.715 trillion won on the Kospi in May. That marked the largest monthly net sale by foreign investors in the market's history. The selling appears to reflect profit-taking after the Kospi's sharp gains this year.
Foreign investors also appeared to shift from the Kospi into the Kosdaq. They were net buyers of 2.837 trillion won on the Kosdaq this month, also a monthly record. The buying was interpreted as reflecting growing expectations that Kosdaq-listed companies would benefit following the recent launch of the National Growth Fund.
