President Donald Trump said Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to halt attacks on each other.
Markets are watching how easing tensions on the Lebanese front could affect the broader situation in the Middle East.
Walter Bloomberg reported on June 1 that Trump said, "Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to stop all firing."
He said no forces would be sent to Beirut and that troops already in transit had been recalled. Trump added that he had also held constructive talks with Hezbollah through senior representatives. Israel will not attack Hezbollah, and Hezbollah will not attack Israel, he said.
Recent fighting between Israel and Hezbollah had intensified, adding pressure to ceasefire talks between the US and Iran. Iran's state television had earlier warned that a US-Iran ceasefire was likely to end if attacks on Lebanon continued.
Market participants say that if the agreement is carried out, it could ease military tensions in the Middle East and affect global oil prices and haven assets.
