The US military said it shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones headed toward the Strait of Hormuz and carried out retaliatory strikes on Iranian coastal surveillance facilities.
US Central Command said in a post on X on June 5 that American forces had downed four Iranian one-way attack drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz.
The command said the drones posed an immediate threat to maritime traffic in the region.
US forces later struck coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk in southern Iran and on Qeshm Island to prevent further attacks.
"US forces remain prepared to act in self-defense against unjustified Iranian attacks," Central Command said. The command added that it continues to monitor the regional security situation.
The action came after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, said it had attacked US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, signaling renewed military tensions between Washington and Tehran.
