President Donald Trump cast a peace agreement with Iran as a signature foreign-policy achievement, contrasting himself with past US presidents.

In a Truth Social post on June 14, Trump wrote that the “great agreement” would bring peace and security across the Middle East. Many presidents tried to make peace with Iran, he wrote, but all failed before he did.

He added that, for the first time in history, Middle East leaders had met a president who could help deliver genuine peace.

Trump also said he plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz after signing the agreement with Iran on June 19. The strait would be opened for mine-clearing operations, he wrote, after which oil supplies to the Middle East and the rest of the world would return to normal.
