A White House official said on June 17 that President Donald Trump had formally signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war with Iran.

Reuters reported that the official confirmed Trump signed the MOU on Wednesday, June 17.

Axios, citing two senior U.S. officials, reported that the United States and Iran signed the MOU electronically on Wednesday, June 17, and that the agreement had taken effect. The two sides had originally planned to meet in Switzerland on June 19 for an in-person signing. Axios also reported there had been discussions about moving up the signing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz before June 19.

Barak Ravid of Axios wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that Trump signed the document while having dinner with the French president at the Palace of Versailles, and that a photographed copy of the signed document was sent to Iran and the mediating country.

Tasnim, Iran's semi-official news agency, reported that Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the presidents of both countries had formally completed their signatures on the MOU between the United States and Iran.

With both sides having completed the MOU electronically, it is unclear whether the in-person signing ceremony scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland will go ahead as planned.
