Senior advisers to US President Donald Trump are heading to Switzerland as Washington tries to revive stalled working-level talks with Iran.
CNN reported on June 19 that Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy, was traveling to Switzerland to restart negotiations with Iran. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, is also set to visit Switzerland to join potential talks.
Witkoff and Kushner previously led key negotiations aimed at reaching an initial memorandum of understanding with Iran. Their return to the forefront has sharpened focus on whether the deadlock between the two countries can be broken.
The timing of any resumption, however, remains unclear. The two sides had been scheduled to begin the next round of talks on Friday, but that plan was scrapped after violence between Israel and Hezbollah escalated sharply.
The White House said the previous day that Vice President JD Vance was ready to board a plane for talks as soon as an opportunity emerged. The readiness of top administration officials to deploy immediately underscores Washington’s push to resume the working-level negotiations.
