An Ethereum core developer has warned that the ecosystem is nearing a major institutional turning point, including the possibility of a protocol funding crisis. BitMine Chairman Tom Lee rejected that view on June 19, saying the odds of such a crisis are zero.

Trent Van Epps, an Ethereum core developer, recently said Ethereum has entered an important institutional transition. He also raised concerns that disputes over the distribution of legitimacy within the ecosystem and its governance structure could trigger a protocol funding crisis.

Lee pushed back immediately. The likelihood of such a crisis hitting the Ethereum network is "0%," he said, adding that funding is already secured.

That confidence appears to stem from BitMine's aggressive Ether buying. The company has been increasing its holdings every week. BitMine now holds more than 5.62 million Ether, equal to 4.66% of the token's total supply.
