U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to the Middle East to attend a Gulf Cooperation Council meeting.

A U.S. State Department spokesperson said on June 22 that Rubio will visit the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain from June 23 to June 25.

In Bahrain, he is set to attend the GCC meeting and discuss a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, along with issues related to the Strait of Hormuz.

The trip comes as Washington and Tehran pursue an MOU and follow-up negotiations.
