US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he would not be surprised if the June jobs report comes in very strong.

Walter Bloomberg reported on June 30 that Bessent made the remark.

Bessent added that he has not yet seen the June employment figures. His comments reflected an outlook based on recent economic trends rather than any review of the official data.

He also addressed gasoline prices, saying it was time to act on behalf of the American people and that refiners and distributors should act responsibly.

In an interview with Fox News, Bessent said of gasoline prices, "We are encouraging them to be good actors, and we are watching."

The remarks came ahead of the release of the US June jobs report. A stronger-than-expected reading could affect the Federal Reserve’s rate path and sentiment toward risk assets.
