Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned it will reimpose a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz unless Iran is guaranteed sole control over the waterway, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the newspaper reported on June 30 that the Revolutionary Guard told mediators at talks in Doha it would resume the blockade if the demand is rejected.
The Revolutionary Guard also demanded that the US and others withdraw plans to route ships through the southern part of the strait near Oman.
Differences over control of the Strait of Hormuz may become a factor delaying negotiations between the US and Iran.
