President Donald Trump said the US and Iran agreed to pause follow-up negotiations on a ceasefire deal for one week.

In an interview with Axios on July 4, Trump said the two sides had decided to “take a week off” from talks.

He added that neither side would attack the other while funeral proceedings were underway for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s former supreme leader.

Saudi state broadcaster Al Arabiya reported on July 4 that follow-up negotiations between the US and Iran on the ceasefire agreement are scheduled to resume on July 11.
