Ripple, the issuer of XRP, has signed an official sponsorship deal with a US college sports team.
Ripple recently struck the agreement with the Kansas Jayhawks, the athletic program of the University of Kansas, The Block reported on July 8. Under the deal, the Jayhawks will wear the XRP logo on their uniforms. The University of Kansas is the alma mater of Ripple Chief Executive Officer Brad Garlinghouse.
Cryptocurrency companies have already signed sponsorship deals with professional sports teams, but corporate logos on college uniforms were only recently allowed. Earlier this year, the NCAA revised its rules to allow Division I teams to place corporate logos on uniforms starting next month.
The sponsorship extends beyond marketing to include educational support. Ripple plans to support financial and technology education programs for student-athletes. It also plans to expand recruiting-linked programs to help University of Kansas graduates enter the tech industry.
