Reuters reported that air-raid sirens sounded in Bahrain, while the United Arab Emirates activated its air-defense systems in response to a missile threat.
Russia's TASS news agency reported that multiple explosions were heard in Doha, Qatar.
US Central Command said it carried out airstrikes on major sites in southern Iran, including Qeshm Island, Asaluyeh and Bushehr. The command said the action followed an Iranian attack on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which it described as a violation of a ceasefire agreement.
Earlier on July 12, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, said in a statement that it was closing the Strait of Hormuz, alleging that vessels had attempted to use unauthorized shipping routes.
