The US military said it completed an 11th consecutive day of airstrikes on Iran aimed at weakening Tehran’s ability to threaten commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command said on X on July 21 that it concluded the 11-day operation at 8:15 p.m. Eastern time, or 9:15 a.m. in South Korea on July 22.
The targets included Iranian military command facilities, naval assets, aircraft hangars, drone storage sites and logistics infrastructure. The strikes were intended to further degrade Iranian military capabilities that could be used to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, Central Command said.
Iran has attacked more than 30 commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz over the past three months, according to Central Command. Those attacks put the safety of hundreds of civilian mariners at risk.
Commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains possible despite the attacks, Central Command said. Since early May, the US military has supported the passage of about 900 commercial vessels that transported about 450 million barrels of crude oil.
