SEC to Hold Sept. 17 Roundtable on 24-Hour US Stock Market
Forecast Trend Report by Period

The US Securities and Exchange Commission will hold a public roundtable in September on shifting the stock market toward 24-hour trading.
The event will take place Sept. 17 at the agency’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., Cointelegraph reported on July 24. Discussions will cover ways to expand overnight trading in the US stock market, including the preparations needed to support extended-hours trading and measures to ensure the structure and stability of a 24-hour market.
SEC Chair Paul Atkins said US stock markets are entering “a new day and night.” He added that broader overnight trading could help US equities keep pace with markets where continuous trading is already available.
The roundtable comes as global exchanges roll out or plan services that extend close to 24 hours a day. The London Stock Exchange is considering launching an overnight trading platform in early 2027, the report said. Nasdaq said in March that it had begun talks with US regulators on introducing 24-hour trading five days a week. The exchange is targeting a launch in the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
