Iran Says Ukraine Called Attack on Iranian Ship Unintentional, Doesn't Want Escalation

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his Ukrainian counterpart told him the attack on an Iranian ship was an "unintentional incident" and that Ukraine does not want the conflict to escalate, Walter Bloomberg reported on July 28.

Araghchi said Iran also does not seek escalation. At the same time, he said he made clear that Tehran would not tolerate any attack targeting the Iranian people or the country's national interests.

He added that the damage caused by the incident should be met with appropriate compensation and reparations.
