US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urged the Senate to hold an immediate vote on the Clarity Act, a cryptocurrency market structure bill.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, on July 30, Bessent wrote that more than a year has passed since the House approved the Clarity Act. He called it disappointing that Democrats were still making political choices as the US stood on the verge of a victory that could strengthen its leadership in crypto. He also claimed that many Democratic lawmakers had received millions of dollars in support from the crypto industry.

The US will lead the industry if the Clarity Act passes, and lose that leadership if it does not, he wrote. "The situation is simple," Bessent added. He then quoted Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto: "If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you."
