IBM Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna said quantum computing is moving beyond the research stage and nearing commercialization, with meaningful contributions to the company’s revenue and profit expected starting in 2028 and 2029, CoinDesk reported on August 31.
In an interview, Krishna said quantum computing will generate $1 trillion in economic value by the late 2030s. He added that the technology will deliver far greater performance than conventional computers at a lower cost.
IBM said in May that it plans to invest a total of $2 billion alongside the U.S. government to build a standalone quantum chip foundry.
