The share of home purchase funds in Seoul sourced from sales of stocks, bonds and cryptocurrencies has more than doubled over the past four years.

Maeil Business Newspaper reported on August 4 that an analysis of home financing plans filed by buyers in South Korea’s 17 cities and provinces showed 7.6% of purchase funds used by individual homebuyers in Seoul from January through May came from selling stocks, bonds and cryptocurrencies. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport submitted the data to the office of Kim Jong-yang, a lawmaker from the ruling People Power Party who sits on the National Assembly’s Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee.

That was up 4.7 percentage points from 2.9% in 2021, more than doubling in about four years.

Seoul recorded the highest share among the country’s 17 cities and provinces for home purchase funding raised through sales of stocks, bonds and cryptocurrencies.
