Cloudflare has started rolling out programmable wallets that will allow artificial intelligence agents to pay directly for APIs and online content with stablecoins.

The Block reported on August 4 that the internet infrastructure company unveiled the first phase of its stablecoin wallet service for AI agents. Users can now receive a unique wallet address linked to their account. Core features, including stablecoin top-ups and approval for agent payments, will be added soon.

The wallets will come in two forms. One is an account wallet, where individuals and institutions deposit funds and control spending. The other is a virtual wallet that works through an API-key model, allowing agents to make payments autonomously. Wallet owners can set spending limits, approved merchant lists and maximum transaction amounts.

The service supports x402, a payment protocol developed by Coinbase. Under the system, when an AI agent requests access to a website, the site returns payment instructions. The agent can then pay immediately and access the content without a separate account or subscription. Cloudflare and Coinbase previously launched the x402 Foundation in September 2025 to promote machine-to-machine payment standards.

Cloudflare is also working with Visa, Mastercard and American Express to develop standards that would help merchants identify trusted AI agents.
