Trump Says US Will Declare Strait of Hormuz American Territory, Won’t Apologize for Oil Price Rise
Forecast Trend Report by Period

President Donald Trump said the US would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz to be American territory.
The Guardian reported on August 14 that Trump, speaking at a police academy on Long Island in New York, said the US would make the move after “completely defeating” Iran. “In effect, we are already blockading the strait, and no vessel can pass unless the US government allows it,” he said.
Iran pushed back immediately. Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, wrote on X that the country would not yield to US threats or shows of force. He added that whether the Strait of Hormuz remains open or is closed is entirely a matter of Iranian sovereignty.
As the war drags on, global oil prices have surged, adding to voter frustration in the US as gasoline prices approach $4 a gallon. Trump defended the move as necessary to prevent Iran, which he called “the world’s No. 1 state sponsor of terrorism,” from obtaining nuclear weapons. “I will not apologize, even if people have to pay a little more for gasoline,” he said. “I did the right thing.”
