Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin, USDT, has formally laid out plans to expand its business.
Bitcoin.com reported on August 18 that Chief Executive Officer Paolo Ardoino said in a recent interview the company has not thought of itself as a digital-asset business for quite some time. Instead, he described Tether as a digital-dollar company and a digital-gold company.
Tether plans to enter the artificial intelligence business. It aims to develop lightweight AI services for emerging markets including Africa and South America.
Ardoino said unequal access to AI could widen existing economic gaps. Tether will focus on practical AI services that can run on ordinary smartphones.
