Two Binance employees were detained in the United Arab Emirates and later released.

Cointelegraph reported on August 21 that Binance said the employees were freed after being questioned by UAE authorities as witnesses.

The New York Times earlier reported that the two employees were stopped at an airport in the UAE and detained. Local police were investigating suspected crimes related to Binance at the time.

Binance said the employees were not targets of the investigation. They gave statements to authorities regarding third-party fund transfers through Binance customer accounts.

A Binance spokesperson said the way digital assets and institutional client fund accounts are managed remains a new concept in many countries. The company is working with UAE authorities, including Dubai police, to establish clear and appropriate cooperation procedures.
