Iran has warned it could retaliate against countries that support US economic pressure on Tehran.

Iranian state television reported on August 22 that Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said Iran could strike the interests of countries backing what he called the US economic war against Iran.

"We will strike the interests of countries that help the United States wage an economic war on Iran," Rezaei said.

He did not specify which countries could be targeted or how Iran would respond. The warning came amid continued tensions between the US and Iran, raising the possibility of retaliation against countries cooperating with the pressure campaign.
