Bitcoin is attempting to reclaim $80,000, but rising Bitcoin holdings on Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, are prompting concern about potential selling pressure.
In an analysis published on Aug. 30, CryptoQuant contributor XWIN Japan wrote that Binance's Bitcoin holdings had climbed to about 687,000 BTC, the highest level of 2026. The exchange's reserves had fallen to about 617,000 BTC in late April before reversing higher, with the pace of the increase accelerating in August.
A key point is that Bitcoin's price and exchange reserves have been rising together. As Bitcoin climbed from the $60,000 range to near $80,000, the amount of Bitcoin held on Binance also increased. Inflows to exchanges often precede selling or hedging by investors, meaning the buildup could represent supply that limits further gains.
More Bitcoin moving onto exchanges during a price rebound may signal that holders are shifting assets to take profits, hedge positions or use them as collateral, XWIN Japan wrote.
That does not mean all 687,000 BTC held on Binance will be put up for sale. Exchange wallet reshuffling, transfers of custodial assets, market-making activity and collateral movements tied to derivatives trading can also lift exchange reserves.
Still, Binance's reserves reaching a 2026 high as Bitcoin approaches the key $80,000 resistance level stands out as a near-term risk factor. If prices rise further, profit-taking supply could emerge and curb upward momentum.
Whether Bitcoin breaks above $80,000 may hinge on how much fresh spot demand and exchange-traded fund inflows can absorb the potential supply building up on Binance.
