Mexico Uncovers Digital-Asset Mining Site Suspected of Drug Cartel Money Laundering

Mexican authorities have uncovered a large digital-asset mining site suspected of being used to launder money for a drug cartel.

Reuters reported on September 12 that authorities found the clandestine mining facility in Puebla state and are investigating possible links to a criminal organization. Officials are also examining whether the site was used to launder illicit funds.

Authorities found about 300 graphics processing units, or GPUs, at the site, along with large-scale power supply equipment.

Mexican criminal groups have recently been expanding into crimes involving digital assets, Reuters reported.
