El Salvador’s government holdings of Bitcoin are nearing 8,000 tokens.
Odaily reported on Sept. 17 that the government held a total of 7,777 Bitcoin as of that day. At current prices, the holdings were worth about $594 million.
The government’s average purchase price was about $55,718 per Bitcoin. Its unrealized gain stood at about $162 million, for a return of about 37%.
El Salvador became the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender in 2021 and has continued buying the cryptocurrency at the government level. It has recently been reported to have bought one Bitcoin a day for 916 consecutive days.
