Binance’s payment service, Binance Pay, is rolling out support for Tether’s USDT for overseas users visiting Japan.
Cointelegraph reported on September 30 that Binance Pay began offering USDT payments that day at most merchants in Japan that accept PayPay.
The service uses HIVEX, a payment interoperability framework that connects overseas QR payment services with PayPay merchants. Users pay in USDT, while merchants continue to receive settlement in yen. No separate merchant registration is required.
Binance said Binance Pay is the first digital-asset payment service connected to PayPay merchants through HIVEX.
PayPay is a mobile payment service used at millions of merchants across Japan. It is accepted not only at major chain stores and retailers, but also at vending machines, taxis and public transportation.
