Drift Foundation Freezes $9.2 Million in Hacked Funds; 107,165 Ether Remain Unmoved

The Drift Foundation has frozen $9.2 million of user assets stolen in a hack that occurred in April.
BlockBeats and other outlets reported on October 30 that the foundation disclosed an update on efforts to recover funds tied to the April breach. User assets stolen in the attack totaled about $300 million.
The foundation said it had frozen $9.2 million in stolen funds as of that day. The funds were found to have moved through the crypto mixing protocol Tornado Cash last month.
The foundation has hired security firms Mandiant and ZeroShadow to investigate the hack and track the stolen assets. Mandiant identified the hacker as UNC6862, a group linked to North Korea.
The hacker moved the stolen assets onto the Ethereum network and distributed about 130,259 Ether across four wallets, according to the investigation.
Of that amount, about 107,165 Ether held in three wallets has remained unmoved since the hack. In the remaining wallet, about 23,094 Ether was transferred to Tornado Cash in July.
The Drift Foundation is also running a bounty program with Bybit. The program will pay informants 10% of the amount actually recovered if they help recover the stolen funds.
The foundation plans to transfer all assets recovered through freezes and other measures to the DFX Recovery Pool.
