Forecast Trend Report by Period

Coinbase, the U.S. cryptocurrency exchange, has received approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to operate as a derivatives clearing organization, or DCO.
DeFi Rate reported on October 3 that the CFTC approved Coinbase's DCO application this week. The approval allows Coinbase to directly clear fully collateralized futures, futures options and swaps.
The approval does not authorize any specific derivatives or prediction-market products. Which products Coinbase can clear, and which underlying assets they can reference, will depend on each product and the applicable regulations.
Coinbase is moving to expand its derivatives business. In June 2025, it announced plans with clearinghouse Nodal Clear to launch futures products using the dollar-pegged stablecoin USDC as collateral.
The outlet said the DCO approval gives Coinbase a foundation to expand its derivatives business without relying on a third-party clearinghouse.
