President Donald Trump said on October 16 that Hyundai had "just announced" a $560 million investment to expand its plant in West Point, Georgia.

Trump mentioned the plan as an example of foreign companies investing in the US during a midterm campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, that day. He then touted the policy achievements of his second term, saying the country was thriving under Republican leadership.

Trump appeared to be referring to an investment plan by Hyundai Transys, Hyundai Motor Group's auto-parts affiliate. According to an October 8 statement from the Georgia governor's office, Hyundai Transys will use the investment to upgrade its existing Plants 1 and 2 at 6801 Kia Parkway in West Point and build a third plant.

It also plans to expand production capacity for electrified powertrains for hybrid vehicles. The facility expansion will create 320 new jobs in management, supervisory and production roles.

Choi Jae-gyun, head of Hyundai Transys Georgia Powertrain, or HTGP, said the company had built a strong relationship with the state over the past two decades through continued capital investment, job creation and talent development. The additional investment marks an important milestone underscoring Hyundai Transys's commitment to a long-term partnership with Georgia, he added.
