Fidelity Says Solana Has Avoided Mainnet Outages for Two Years, but Validator and Infrastructure Concentration Remain Issues
Summary
- Fidelity's FCAT said Solana (SOL) has operated without a mainnet outage over the past two years, improving stability and economic security.
- The report said high staking participation, validator incentive structures, and low latency and transaction costs are strengths that support Solana's large-scale real-world use.
- It added that concentration in validator stake, server infrastructure and node software remains an issue for the network's decentralization and resilience, and should continue to be monitored.

Solana's network has operated without a mainnet outage over the past two years, reflecting improved stability, though concentration in validator stake and server infrastructure still warrants monitoring, according to an analysis.
Cointelegraph reported on Oct. 17 that the Fidelity Center for Applied Technology, or FCAT, said in a recent report that Solana had made substantial progress in network resilience, economic security and performance.
The report said Solana had not recorded a mainnet outage in the past two years. High staking participation and an incentive structure that rewards validator performance also support the network's economic security, it said.
Low latency, expanded throughput and low transaction costs were also cited as strengths that enable large-scale real-world use.
Still, the report said concentration of staked tokens among some validators and operators, along with concentration in server hosting and node software, should continue to be monitored from the standpoint of decentralization and resilience.
Solana in August reduced its block production interval to 350 milliseconds from the previous level. The Solana Foundation is also pursuing a plan to lower that to 200 milliseconds, with three additional reductions of 50 milliseconds each.
