President Donald Trump said Iran is fabricating incidents, including attacks and mine-laying, to drive up global oil prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.

In a social media post on October 22, Trump said Iran is "working overtime" to raise oil prices before the U.S. midterms and is "staging all sorts of incidents," including attacks and mine-laying.

He said more oil is now being transported through the Strait of Hormuz than before the conflict began. He added that people in the U.S. and around the world should understand "how evil the Iranian regime is."

Trump also criticized Democrats, saying they are indifferent to the issue. He added that Iran must never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons and will not be able to do so in the future.
