The Hong Kong government has named Nasdaq-listed Solana Company a strategic enterprise, underscoring its push to develop the blockchain infrastructure industry.

Cointelegraph reported on October 26 that Solana Company had been included in the seventh batch of companies selected for a support program run by OASES, Hong Kong’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises. The company is the only blockchain infrastructure firm chosen for the program this year.

Hong Kong on October 22 designated 18 companies, including Solana Company, as new strategic enterprises. That raised the total number of participating companies to 142. The government operates the program to attract global companies that can contribute to economic growth.

The designation gives Solana Company administrative support for its local expansion. It will have a single channel for communication with government agencies and regulators, as well as support for overseas hiring procedures and opportunities to work with local institutional investors and business partners.

Solana Company operates staking and validator infrastructure for the Solana network. It also runs an advisory business that helps financial institutions adopt blockchain technology and holds Solana as part of its digital-asset treasury strategy.

The company plans to use Hong Kong as a base to expand its blockchain infrastructure business across the Asia-Pacific region. In particular, it aims to build validator operating infrastructure in Hong Kong through its Pacific Backbone project, which is designed to minimize communication latency across blockchain networks in the region.
