South Korea’s major cryptocurrency exchanges warned users to exercise caution over withdrawals to GOPAX after the rival platform suspended some services.

Upbit said on November 6 it had confirmed that GOPAX had temporarily halted cryptocurrency deposit, withdrawal and trading services, and that it was monitoring the situation. It added that it may restrict cryptocurrency withdrawals to GOPAX if necessary to protect users.

DigitalX issued a similar withdrawal caution notice the same day, citing GOPAX’s suspension of deposit, withdrawal and trading services. It said withdrawals to GOPAX could be restricted depending on how the situation develops, with any changes to be announced separately.

Bithumb said GOPAX had temporarily suspended cryptocurrency deposit services from 2:55 p.m. on November 6. It warned that if users send assets to GOPAX, the deposits may not be properly credited. Bithumb also said it may restrict withdrawals to GOPAX if needed to protect user assets.

Earlier, GOPAX said it had received a threatening email warning of a hack. In response, it suspended withdrawals as a preemptive step to protect user assets and moved most assets in its hot wallet to a cold wallet as part of an emergency response.
