The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) urged Iran to de-escalate tensions, while emphasizing Israel's right to self-defense.

According to reports from News1 and others on the 16th (local time), the joint statement from the G7 summit held in Canada stated, "We affirm Israel's right to defend itself," and, "We once again express our support for Israel's security."

Regarding Iran, they said, "We have consistently made it clear that Iran must never possess nuclear weapons," and stressed, "We urge that resolution of the Iran crisis should lead to a broad de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip."

The statement was also agreed to by U.S. President Donald Trump. Initially, President Trump was reportedly set to refrain from signing the joint statement calling for de-escalation between Iran and Israel.
